VISION OF THE MUNICIPALITY
Bharatpur Municipality has envisioned developing it as a potential
alternative capital of the kingdom by strengthening as a center of
tourism, trade, agriculture, health, and education. To achieve this
vision by involving local communities at large, municipality has
recently started to implement participatory municipal development
planning. Similarly, Human Resources Development Center and Urban
Information Center have been established to cater the growing needs
of the development. It has endeavored to ensure good urban
governance in this municipality. To translate the vision into
reality municipality is mobilizing the resources from various donors
and the people's participations well. Municipality is implementing
the Rural Urban Partnership Programme (With the support of UNDP/UNCHS)
along with micro credit Programme for women to reduce urban poverty
from its own resources. People's participation has been largely
mobilized in the line to create new enterprises for income
generation, to introduce new technology and to develop social and
economic infrastructure. Similarly, Urban Development through Local
Efforts (UDLE) has assisted municipality in urban planning,
municipal organization and development administration, urban
environment and protection and financial management. Town
development fund is financing in the form of grant and loan for
physical infrastructure and development. DED and Peace Corps are
also supporting us for the urban development efforts. The
municipality is trying to seek the assistance from national and
international donor communities for transacting its vision into the
reality.
